Student Affairs provides essential programs and services that encourage and support academic success and personal growth for more than 29,500 students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs at the University. These programs and services challenge and enable students to become compassionate and responsible citizens and leaders on the campus and in local and global communities through an inclusive, culturally diverse and growth-centered campus environment. Student Affairs includes 17 departments, more than 325 full- and part-time professionals, and over 800 student workers who work together daily with campus administrators, faculty, and students to foster an environment of student learning and success.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Business Officer serves as the senior-level accounting personnel reporting to the Director of the OVC Business Services Hub. This role is responsible for all budgetary management of assigned department(s) accounts, funds, and sources according to GAAP, GASB, Audit standards, and university policies and procedures. This role is responsible for monthly reconciliation and annual reporting for all assigned departments including monitoring of payables, receivables, and payroll in all State, Fee, Grant, Revenue, and Gift accounts funds and sources ensuring that all transactions are assigned to appropriate accounts and reconciled monthly and timely. Reconciliation is to include all processes, revenue, and expenses, including payroll. This role oversees grant management for all the departments under Student Affairs. The Business Officer meets with departmental management including unit managers, department directors, OVC Business Services Hub Director, Student Affairs Senior Finance Director, and Associate Vice Chancellors to provide accurate financial reports and direction. The Business Officer answers all standard questions and prepares analysis with recommendations for non-standard items to be reviewed with the Director of OVC Business Services Hub and/or the Senior Finance Director of Student Affairs.
Entry-level with Masters; or Bachelors and 0-2 yrs experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of a personal computer, word processing, and Excel spreadsheets.

- Demonstrated ability to independently explain financial concepts and communicate effectively, efficiently, and diplomatically both orally and in writing with internal and external partners.
