Job Summary
- Want to join a great team, make a difference and work in an energetic and dynamic environment? Eastern Washington University is currently in search of a Human Resources Consultant Assistant 1. This position will primarily work with our students. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a close, collaborative team where we value every employee for their individual strengths, while working together to help make Human Resources a successful, inclusive, and diverse place of employment.
- This position supports the employment of temporary employees, including student employees, adjunct faculty, temporary hourly, and graduate student assistants by assisting with daily operations in support of the recruitment, hiring, employment and onboarding of our employees. The successful candidate will perform human resource tasks such as interpreting and applying employment rules and regulations and advising students, staff, program participants and/or the public regarding the content, policies, procedures and activities of the institutional employment program. This position performs data entry on a daily basis and ensures accuracy of human resource documents and records.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three years of office experience including a minimum six months of experience in a human resources, student employment or related setting. Equivalent education will substitute for up to two years of office experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education or school setting
- Experience as first point of contact in an office or organizational setting
- Experience using a human resources information system like: Banner
- Experience using a report writer such as Tableau
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Associates degree or higher
- Experience or familiarity with financial aid

Assist with Coordination of Recruitment and Hiring of Temporary Employees
- Facilitate Washington State Background checks and assist with sexual misconduct checks on temporary employees as required by position and provide notification to departments of clearance.
- Review and ensure the accuracy of employee-completed human resource documents including, but not limited to, the employment applications, I-9s, W-4s, PERS Eligibility Waivers, and Employee Data Change Forms.
- Perform data entry for personnel actions
- Monitor compliance with employment regulations and work with employing departments and individual participants to resolve non-compliant issues.
- Monitor reports to assure employment status.
- Assist with semi-monthly employee payroll maintenance, including index and pay rate changes in order to meet payroll processing deadlines, and approval of personnel actions to ensure all employees are timely and accurately paid.
- Maintain documents, files, and records in accordance with laws, regulations and program guidelines. Use spreadsheet and database software to develop and maintain records and assist with gathering documents for audit, public record or discovery requests.
- Assist with the direction and review of work of assigned student employees who support the Human Resources Office.
- Assists in the compilation and preparation of reports using computerized and/or manual systems
- Taken together, the remaining duties below represent an additional 5 percent:
- Assists in developing and updating forms, publications, handouts, and other communications used in the temporary employment process; edit materials for accuracy, appearance, readability and style and update website.
- Provides exceptional customer service including communicating with employees, supervisors, other schools, external employers, and other state agencies regarding temporary employment matters.
- Attend local and regional meetings pertaining to employment, human resources and payroll.
- Respond to employment verifications and unemployment claims.
- Assist in reviewing procedures or rules to facilitate effectiveness. Serve as the operational backup for the Federal and State Work Study programs

- Assist departments with the posting, recruitment, and hiring of temporary employees using University recruitment websites such as Handshake and PeopleAdmin
- Assist temporary employees in locating and applying for positions.
- Interpret, explain and apply federal, state, and institutional policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Respond to employee and departmental inquiries and resolve problems with temporary employment paperwork and compensation. Refer higher level problems to the AVP of Human Resources when necessary.
- Serve as advising and counseling backup for the Federal and State Work Study programs.
- Provide general information concerning other areas and processes of the university. including Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration, Advising, Student Financial Services, and Payroll.
